Restablished in Janurary of 2008, Downriver Modified is a brand new car club dedicated to preserve the rich auto history of the downriver communities south of Detroit. The original Downriver Modified began in the 50's and has long since faded away. Now it's back and this club is 100% for its members, by its members, and this is just the beginning. What we hope to accomplish is to bring together a group of people, oldtimers and youngsters, with the common goal of creating friendships, having some fun and carry on what began many years ago. If you spent some time in the pits at Detroit Dragway in the 50's, made a few hard runs on Northline in the early 60's or attended the latest Downriver Cruise...we're here for the same reason. EVERYONE plays a part in this club.
How do we start, where do we go and how do we get there?
Having been one of the original members of the "Old" Downriver Modified, the first step was with Ernie MacEwen having the idea to start it again. (Did someone say Grandfathered?)
We'll take this slow and easy, and together we will make it. We'll need some things to get started, maybe a Board of Directors, for sure some ideas. I can handle the website and I need all of you who have any photos from the 50's and 60's to send them in so I can get them on for everyone to enjoy. Time to share and quit hording the history. Send in some stories but don't get caught stretching the truth too far. How about a classified section so you can get rid of some of that stuff you've been sitting on for too long.
Who's welcome to join ?
Should there be a cut off on membership numbers?
This is a car club with street rods, hot rods and muscle cars. Should stock cars be allowed and what should the cut-off year be?
Should troublemakers be shot?
